The Suisun Marsh Natural History Association operates the Suisun Wildlife Center, which has provided rescue, care and release back to the wild for injured and orphaned native California wildlife in Solano County since 1977. It has released over 17,000 wild birds and animals back to the wild, and the Association’s Environmental Education program has worked with over 300,000 children and adults.

Dr. Emanuelson (left) was the founding veterinarian of the SMNHA and she developed some of the first manuals for wildlife care, still used by the International Wildlife Rehabilitation Council and most rehabilitators, many all over the world.  This endowment was established in her honor and memory to provide ongoing funding for the three paid positions that enable the SMNHA to function as a primarily volunteer organization.  They are: Executive Director, Wildlife Care Director, and Environmental Education Director.

In 2016, the Association was chosen to receive the John Muir Association Conservation Award for A Nonprofit Organization. 2016 was the 37th year the John Muir Association has presented awards to recognize organizations and individuals for their contributions toward conserving the environment.

The Suisun Marsh Natural History Association is a 501(c)3 non-profit volunteer organization, dedicated to the rescue of native California wildlife and to the preservation of the Suisun Marsh, working through the dual avenues of wildlife rescue & release and environmental education.
