GEORGE C. PAPPAS SCHOLARSHIP FUND

Specific Fund Purpose.
To award one or two scholarships annually (but no more than two) to a student who is pursuing higher education at a university or certified trade school. This scholarship will provide financial support to a qualified student to help cover tuition, fees, and books. The annual renewable scholarship payment will range between $1,500 and $2,000 per year, not to exceed a total maximum award amount per student of $8,000 (payable over four years).

Scholarship Eligibility and Award Criteria.
Beginning in the spring of 2026, eligible candidates will use the Foundation's online scholarship application portal and process to apply for a George C. Pappas Scholarship.  Application packages must include current official grade transcripts. To assure that the scholarship is awarded fairly and independently, the criteria and selection procedures will be approved in advance by the Foundation’s Board for each scholarship cycle. An interview by the Selection Committee may be required if needed to choose a final candidate(s).

  1. The applicant must be a member of the Saints Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church in Vallejo, CA.
  2. The applicant must be a U.S. citizen.
  3. The applicant must demonstrate financial need.
  4. The applicant will have maintained at least a 3.0 cumulative grade point average (GPA) during their high school junior and senior years if planning to attend a four-year college or university.
  5. The applicant will have maintained at least a 2.5 cumulative grade point average (GPA) during their high school junior and senior years if planning to attend a certified vocational or trade school.
  6. The scholarship may be awarded for one to four years of study (with annual renewal requirements and payments).
  7. Applicants must complete a written Essay on the meaning and purpose of the U.S. Constitution. The specific topic/question will be included in the application eligibility and guidelines materials.
Selection Committee Composition.
This committee must consist of a minimum of three members; parties related to the donor may not represent the majority of the committee. Committee membership is based on knowledge and expertise as it relates to candidate eligibility and application rating criteria used. Committee members will include:
  1. One designated friend or family member of the Pappas family
  2. One member of the Saints Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church in Vallejo, CA.
  3. Three or more staff or Board members of the Solano Community Foundation.
