About Foundation Center

Established in 1956, Foundation Center is the leading source of information about philanthropy worldwide. Through data, analysis, and training, it connects people who want to change the world to the resources they need to succeed. Foundation Center maintains the most comprehensive database on U.S. and, increasingly, global grantmakers and their grants — a robust, accessible knowledge bank for the sector. It also operates research, education, and training programs designed to advance knowledge of philanthropy at every level. Thousands of people visit Foundation Center's website each day and are served in its five regional hubs and its network of more than 400 funding information centers located in public libraries, community foundations, and educational institutions nationwide and around the world. For more information, please visit foundationcenter.org, call (212) 620-4230, or tweet us at @fdncenter.

SCF, a Funding Information Network (FIN) partner of the Foundation Center since March of 2006, has three computer workstations and printers with dedicated access to Foundation Center resources (FDO, GTIO, Maps and GrantSpace). Our FIN work center also houses a modest collection of books, publications, and nonprofit literature.

SCF staff members are available to help familiarize and assist new users with the website content and search process. For those already familiar with using FDO, appointments aren't necessary, but we do ask that you call ahead (if possible) to let us know when we might expect to see you.

  • When it comes to doing research for funding, you won't find a more extensive resource than Foundation Directory Online. Updated weekly, the information is more current. With our team of editors reviewing and verifying the data, it’s more accurate. And, by providing access to more than 120,000 foundation and corporate donors, 3 million recent grants, and over half a million key decision makers, it’s more comprehensive, too.The online database actually contains 9 comprehensive, searchable databases. In addition to searching grantmakers, companies, grants, and 990s, FDO Professional has a new Power Search tool which will also search RFPs, news, jobs, foundation-sponsored publications, and nonprofit literature.
  • With dozens of searchable fields, you can dig into the grantmaker and grants database to find exactly the information you need to boost your fundraising and make an impact.
  • Includes a free search tool that has replaced Foundation Finder, providing public access to essential information about nearly 90,000 foundations and over 250,000 IRS Forms 990-PF.

  • The interactive maps and charts profile feature will show a foundation's grants geographically--right down to grantee zip codes--and by recipient type or primary subject, with three levels of detail.
  • The database includes links to the funder's own website allowing immediate access to specific information on their grant guidelines, submission deadlines, contact information, and sampling of grants made.
  • FDO is complemented by the Funding Information Network of printed materials, including foundation directories, funding guides, periodicals, and books written on subjects of interest to nonprofit professionals and funders.
